Raleigh Fashion Week, a celebration of fashion, beauty, music and dance was held at the brand new Raleigh Convention Center May 14-16. Brian Williams Television and the Plaza Condominiums presented this fashion showcase, highlighting the work of national fashion designers (Alexander Julian, Peter Millar, Meschantes), many with roots and local connections right in the Triangle. It also featured the latest offerings of area boutiques and stores. Three days and nights of runway shows, featuring more than 100 models, drew an estimated 3,000 area "fashionistas". This showcase also included beauty, talent and healthy living seminars, vendor displays, trunk shows and evening runway fashion shows. Thursday night was a salute to Raleigh’s Emerging Artists, including selected North Carolina State University Art to Wear and College of Textiles designers. Friday night was devoted to Women’s and Men’s Formal Wear. The Saturday night grand finale of Raleigh Fashion Week was Strut 09. This red-carpet affair aired as a 90-minute television special a total of 4 times, twice in primetime on CW22 and MyRDC.
