It's been great to add CBS COLLEGE SPORTS to my list of Producing credits in 2010, beginning with a package of college basketball games this winter. CBS College Sports has assembled an outstanding group of producers, directors and talent to present games coast to coast in that great CBS tradition. This season I produced some thrilling A-10 games (both Men's and Women's) as well as a few C-USA games. The NCAA Tournament was sensational, as always (despite a disappointing effort from my Syracuse Orangemen). It was great to see CBS sign a new long-term deal to continue as host broadcaster of "March Madness".   I'm looking forward to the 2011 season already.

I was back in Augusta again this year for my 12th year of producing the World Feed at THE MASTERS.  My role is to produce the TV telecast that is aired worldwide, reaching more than 250 countries and territories. The Masters is truly one of the world's great sporting events and I'm always thrilled to work with my good friends at CBS and Augusta National. It was another spectacular Masters from Tiger's return to Phil's 6-iron on Sunday from the pinestraw on 13.  The most amazing shot I've ever seen, considering what was at stake.  Already looking forward to Augusta in 2011!

This year I added the Boston Marathon to my network production schedule.  I was hired by BEST to Produce the 114th running of this World Marathon Majors event on Patriots Day, April 19, through the streets of Boston.  Bruce Treut directed while Al Trautwig and Larry Rawson called the race and Robert Cheruiyot's Boston Marathon record finish.  I've always enjoyed watching this event and I was excited to have the opportunity to Produce it this year.  It aired on Universal TV here in the U.S. and around the world.

You might not know the name, however, Millie West is one of the great pioneers of Women's Athletics in this country.  For 50 years Millie has been advancing the cause of women athletes at the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia.  On May 1 of this year, Millie was recognized by the college for her outstanding contributions as they presented "50 Years of Women's Sports at W&M", during an afternoon on-campus gala.  It was truly an honor to produce the "50 Years" video and to be part of this day of tribute to the great Millie West.  She is one of the most inspirational people I have ever met!

The US Open returns to one of the world's great golf venues in 2010, Pebble Beach Golf Links. Again this year I'll join the ESPN team producing and directing shows that will air on DirecTV and ESPN 360. This year we'll provide coverage of the Par 5 18th Hole at Pebble as every golfer in the field completes his round.  We'll offer round highlights and features, as well as final hole coverage for all four days of the US Open Championship. I had a chance to play Pebble last month during our survey (you HAVE to know the course if you're going to work it) and it beat me up!  I'm looking forward to working with ESPN's Trey Wingo, John Anderson, Rick Reilly and Billy Kratzert as they describe the action.

Then, it's on to Wimbledon.

Next it's on to London and the grass of the “All England Club” for Wimbledon.  Again this year I'll produce and direct shows that air on DirecTV and ESPN 360.  Working with Executive Producer Don Colantonio, we'll offer coverage of key matches from 9 show courts from the grounds of Wimbledon, on the 6-channel "matrix" feed.  It is the future of sports on TV.

This year the ESPN/DirecTV team has added production of the British Open Championship, held in 2010 at the home of golf, St. Andrews.  There is no more "magical" place on earth, if you love the game of golf, than St. Andrews.  I've had the great opportunity to play this course a few times and it will be great to return for this year's Open.

NEW YORK, NEW YORK

Last year the US Open Tennis Championships was filled with outstanding play and surprises on the court as the greatest player of all time, Roger Federer went down in the Men's Final and Kim Clijsters provided one of the great comeback stories in recent history to win the Women's singles title.  Again this year I'll work for the United States Tennis Association as Executive Producer of the World Feeds, those telecasts that are seen around the world in over 200 countries. As always, I'm looking forward to working with the talented producers and directors of CBS Sports and the good folks at the USTA in NYC.

Brian won 2 emmys for this production

I'll be back in Chicago again this October for my third year of producing the Bank of America Chicago Marathon. This is a wonderful sporting event and, like New York and Boston, is one of the 5 "World Marathon Majors" (London and Berlin are the others).

Congratulations to Carol Cooling, Matt Piacente, Ed Mann and all the talented folks at NBC-5 Chicago for taking home not one, but two Emmy's for our production of the 2008 Bank of America Chicago Marathon. In our first year together, we won for Outstanding Broadcast Production and for Outstanding Technical Achievement. This is quite an honor for NBC-5, Director Bruce Treut and myself. In most cases it takes a few years to "build a reputation" with Emmy voters before taking home the statue!

Last year we had another outstanding show with Kenya's Sammy Wanjiru setting a new Chicago Marathon record time of 2:05:41. Who knows...we might take home some hardware for that show, as well.

I'll be back in NYC this November for the 41st running of the New York City Marathon. The race starts on Staten Island, travels 26.2 miles through the greatest city in the world and finishes in Central Park.

I'll direct the Start Line again as 35,000 runners hit the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge in one of the great scenes in all of sports. The show airs on WNBC in New York and NBC network. Over the year's, we've won multiple Emmys for our productions of this great sporting event.

Is this the year I jump out of the start line TV truck and run the race? I'll let you know.
